Tim Holtz 2015 November Tag
Here it it...Tim's NEW tag for November.
If you are interested in learning how Tim made
this Autumn Tag then follow this link to his blog
and he will provide all the directions you need
to make this sweet little tag.
I really enjoyed the process of making my tag for November!
I made a pumpkin tag last month, so I decided I would
finally play with my Bird Crazy Dies this month.
I love birds and I have grown to really like these little guys.
I went a little crazy myself and bought most everything that went with
these cute little guys. The Bird Crazy die, the Bird Crazy stamps,
the (Bird) Crazy Things die and the stamp, and then there is the (Bird) Crazy
Talk stamp set...the only thing I haven't bought yet is the
(Bird) Crazy Thoughts stamp set.
Oh yes...I am really into these crazy birds!
This is the (Bird) Crazy Thoughts Stamp Set:
The only thing "Bird Crazy" I haven't bought yet!
Here is my "Bird Crazy" November 2015 Tag:
I hope you get my
little sense of "Bird Humor,"
with Thanksgiving
almost here. LOL!
This tag doesn't
really have any "girlie" items on it either,
unless you count
the little bit of shimmer in the ribbon and
on the buckle of
his hat.
This bird is
definitely a "guy" to me.
Maybe Tim will
make a female version!

To make the background of this stamp, I really tried to
follow along with Tim's directions. I squirted a little
Picket Fence white paint on my craft mat and ran my brayer
through it and applied it to my stamp.
This was the closest stamp I had to the
Linen background stamp that Tim used.
This was the closest stamp I had to the
Linen background stamp that Tim used.
This is Tim's Mesh and Linen stamp set.
He used the one on the bottom.
I was a little timid with my paint
at first because in the past I just stuck my stamp in the paint
and applied it to my project.
Using the brayer to apply the paint was a new trick for me.
But since the stamp was a fairly large one,
I can see that applying the paint with the brayer was definitely the
proper way to do this...(no I wasn't doubting Tim..but myself).
Then I stamped my image onto my tag.
Dried it with my heat tool to set it.
I did not have the sprays that I he suggested using
so I just used distress inks (Frayed Burlap and Pumice) on my Craft Sheet,
gave a little squirt of water over the distress inks
and dragged my tag through the ink and dried it.Then
I applied ground espresso to the edges of my tag
with my mini inker.
I didn't get as much concentrated color in the center
of the tag as Tim, but I am in LOVE with this back ground even more.
This back ground turned out sooooo COOL.
I love the vintage look of it and how it
looks like it has so much texture.
Next I veered completely off the grid and did my
own thing. I took the birthday stamp, cupcake, applied
washi tape to the image next to the outer lines.
This is so I wouldn't get ink on the image....just
the lines.

I then picked out the bird I wanted to use,
stamped it onto water color paper (two times in
case I wanted to layer some of the parts), used
distress inks with my water color brush to color one of the
stamped images, then die cut the colored image.
I then went back to Tim's directions to apply the
foil to the edges of the tag. I have been wanting
to do this since January. This was really easy and I
LOVE the result. Just apply some glue with your glue
stick to the edges where you think you want foil,
place your foil....FOIL SIDE UP...over the glue...
give a little RUB A DUB DUB....remove it....and
like magic..you have this shimmery foil effect on the surface.
AMAZING!
Next I went back to work on the main focus of my tag...the BIRD....
I wanted him to have a pilgrim hat. I stamped the witches hat
from the Crazy Things stamp onto watercolor paper, colored
it using my waterbrush and black soot,
then I colored the band and the buckle, then die cut it out.
For the buckle I used brass paint then glossy accented it.
I then cut along the base of the hat is a straight line and cut off
the pointed parts of the brim, reinked the edges using black archival ink
and TA DA...instant pilgim hat. Oh I can't wait to get a picture...
but I have got to finish.
I glossy accented the eyes to my second stamped bird, after it
was dry, I cut them out. I also colored the beak of the 2nd bird and cut that out.
I then pop dotted these parts onto the bird. Oh he is looking cute!
I decided to do the wings too!
I went on line got an image of a turkey leg, printed it, colored it,
and hand cut this out.
Then I stamped the hearts from the Crazy Things stamp.
I colored them with Barn Door and Abandoned Coral and cut
them out.
I then started assembling my tag. I placed everything on my tag
then glued it down. I then drew the word BIRD in a rectangle at the top
of the bird...you know to kind of give it the look of a blueprint stamp.
I then cut out the word "THANKFUL."
I had to use the letters because the block word was too large.
I glued these on after inking them with walnut distress ink at the tag base.
I then wrapped hemp cord above the word and tied it in a knot.
Then I inked my ribbon with the yellows and sprayed
it with antique brass and walnut stain.
Then I tied my wishbone with hemp cord and put it on
the ribbon. I took some walnut distress ink and applied
some ink around the images for some shading ....
Oh He is CUTE...I had so much
FUN....
I think I turned into a "CRAZY BIRD" at the end...LOL!
(I am not sure what is green at the top of my tag...I believe
something is reflecting off of the foil)
Hope you like my "BIRD CRAZY" tag!
