It's Been Way to Long

I can't believe it has been at least 3 months since I have posted on "my scrappin road!"
I have so much to share, but it's really late, so I'll just write what I can for now.
Since the trip to CHA, I have been putting in a lot of hours at EMI and for awhile,
that is all I did...help at the store.  I will talk about CHA later...that's really old news,
but a great experience for me since that was my first visit.  Anyway..since my last
posting I finished my first mini book kit for EMI.  The link  is on my blog.  I am so
very proud of it.  The title is "Captured Moments."  It is for sale at EMI Scrapbook
Store.  I used Gabrielle paper by Bo Bunny.  So if you are able to check it out, do ...
and then leave me a comment and tell me what you think.  I would appreciate any advice,
because I really want to improve my work.
I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Halloween!

CHA Here I Come

I am sooooo excited!  I am going to CHA!  Wow!   I can't wait!  A dream come true...I will tell you!
I am one lucky woman.  My husband put gas in my car, gave me some $, and said, "Have a good time
honey!"  "You need to go, you deserve to go! I want you to have a good time!"  When I return for CHA
I will give you a much needed update.  I also am planning to try to load more pictures and write more each week.  I have so much I want to share with you.  Thanks for your patience.  I  have been so busy helping out at EMI Scrapbook Store, that I just haven't had the energy to post like I wanted to.

I am really trying to get healthy.  I have been walking with Susan, the owner of EMI Scrapbooking
Store in Cumming, Georgia.  We have been walking 2 to 3 miles 5 to 6 days a week.  I am really
blessed.  Since 2007, I have prayed for a walking partner.  Someone that wants to walk in the
mornings with me.  Again, I tell you I am blessed.   God sent Susan into my life.  We support each other
with our walking, with our daily diet, and with a positive attitude.  This is the change I needed.
I know that I have to walk and watch what I eat for the rest of my life.  However, it is so much
easier to do with a friend.

Take care and have a Blessed Day!

Mother-in-laws 90th Birthday 7 Gypsies Trays

The 90th Birthday Party event has come and gone.
Everything turned out perfect.  We had simple party
for my husband's mother at a small Chinese restaurant.
The birthday girl socialized, ate good food, blew out
90 candles, and ate some birthday cake.  We all raised
a glass of champagne in her honor.
I made two 7 gypsie trays for her which had pictures from
her entire life.  It was very difficult trying to put so many
pictures on those small trays, but I was very pleased with
the results and so was my mother-in-law and that was the
important part.  I wanted her to be able to see pictures of
her life as she went about her day, without having to open
a book.  We hung the trays on the wall in her den by her chair.
This is the first tray.

If you lifted the picture up on the right, you would find
another picture under it.  I used the accordian fold at
the top of the pictures and hot glued it to the top of the
square section that I placed the pictures in.  It was like
a flip book.  I repeated this process in several places.

I think my favorite part is the little picture of Imogene
with the crown.

Here is the second tray.

I used Pink Paislee House of 3 Soiree Paper, supplies, and
 embellishments.
Other products I used:
Black card stock
Colorbok black glitter paper
Teresa Collins Posh glitter paper
Echo Park Be Mine alpha stickers
Making Memories mini shimmer black alphas
Making Memories Metal flowers
Studio g stamps
Paper Studio Spare Parts crown brad
Paper Studio Spare Parts adhesive gemstones
Recollections brads
Best occasions metal dots
EK success birthday candle stickers
Hobby Lobby Charm Me Bride/Groom Charms
Punches
Sizzix Flourish die cut
Light Blue embroidery thread

I hope you enjoy looking at these two projects.
In the beginning I really worried about how I
was going to get all these pictures on the small
trays.  But once I started working on them and
had some uninterrupted time, I was able to
realize I could use the accordion fold to my
advantage in this project.  It really worked for me.

Mother-in-laws 90th Birthday Project

My husband's mother's 90th birthday is at the end of June.  We are planning
a small gathering of people to celebrate this wonderful event.
I think when you make it to this age, something special should take place.
So I hope everything turns out alright.
I decided I would try to make something special for her.  I bought two
seven gypsies trays and have finally started her project. I've always wanted
to use these trays.  I thought two of them side by side would look good on
the wall.   I am using pink paisley soree paper.  It is so bright and fun!
Just right for a birthday party.  When I get a little further along, I will post
some pictures.  One thing that I am having trouble with...
there are not a lot of good pictures available.  I believe a lot of her pictures
were lost in a flood some years back.  I am hoping I can make do with what
I have. I am planning on having a conversation with her to find out some
answers to some questions that I have.  I think that if I don't have pictures,
I can at least have some wonderful information about her to share.
I will type up some questions to ask her, so I will have that ready
and then I can just write down her answers beside the question.
This will help with journaling.
For me...these trays are very small and they don't hold a lot.
I will have to be creative with my paper when I put in my
journaling and pictures.  I plan on using pockets and fold outs
(like I used on my mother's day book).  As usual, I can't wait to finish.

Memorial Day!

This is one of those days that makes me feel so very blessed and thankful.
It humbles me to think that I am home feeling so very safe, while other Americans
are overseas still risking their lives for our homeland.
I pray for their safety and day when our world is at peace.

Wreath for Dad's 80th Birthday

On October 2, 2010, my dad turned 80.  What a special day that was for
my family.  Before this day arrived, I knew that something special needed
to take place for my dad.  Growing up, I was very lucky.  I came from a
large family, was loved every day, and my daddy was a wonderful provider.
We never wanted for anything.  We lived in a modest home, had plenty to
eat, and had clothes to wear and as we got older, we had an allowance to
spend.  That was for all my other siblings...3 boys and another sister too.
Sooo for my daddy's birthday, I really wanted to surprise him by having
the whole family there.  I started planning in August.  I contacted all family
members so they could put this event on their calendar.
Do you know how hard it is to get a family of five kids together, plus their
families???  Everyone was able to come except for one grandchild....
Chris...we missed you!
Chris had just moved to Texas and just couldn't get here.
I wanted to make something special for my dad.  I felt that since he was
turning 80, whatever I made, had to show pictures of him throughout his life.
Then I was wondering how to display all these pictures.
I didn't just want to put a bunch of pictures in frames and sit them out.
I wanted them all together.  Something I could "HANG" up for everyone to see.
I thought at first that I might put this on the front door as a birthday welcome.
That's when I thought of doing a wreath.
I could hang it somewhere else if I wanted too and I could also add some
paraphernalia to it.
So I started gathering items for the wreath.
Whenever I begin a project, I put a tray on the table and
anything I think I might use, I place it in the tray.
Here are a list of items I used for my "Birthday Wreath."

Grape vine wreath
Pictures
Ribbon
Clothes Pins
Wooden Letters
Wooden Hearts
Tags
White Card stock (printer size)
Ink - Tim Holtz
Hot Glue Gun
Jewelry leaves

I've been working with my dad on family history for a while, so I went
through some of his pictures and reprinted the ones I want to use.
My dad had an older brother, so I didn't find any pictures of him alone
when he was growing up.  When I put the pictures on the wreath,
I put them on clockwise in sequence.
I knew I needed ribbon, but I didn't want anything blingy.  This
was for an 80 year old man.  My dad has always had a love for the
Smoky Mountains, so when I ran across some green plaid, burlap
and dark green ribbon at Michael's, I knew it was perfect.  I also
found some twine, and some wooden letters and hearts
that I thought I could use.  I had some thin ribbon in the beige colors
that I had purchased at Hobby Lobby.  I planned on putting this ribbon
on the clothes pins.
I knew I would be printing out comments/quotes on the computer, so I got
out my Tim Holtz Inks. I got to thinking about how to attach all this on the wreath and
I went through my stash and found some clothes pins.  Perfect!
All the items on this wreath can be easily removed.  The only things hot glued were the
bow, the wooden letters: Papa, and the wooden hearts.

This project wasn't time consuming or expensive. I bet I spent less than $30 dollars.
Everyone that viewed the wreath commented on how wonderful it turned out.
This project is simple and easy to do.  If you can't make a bow, you can easily
go to a craft store that makes floral arrangements, and they will make one for you.
One other thing that I thought of when I made this wreath is that it is a versatile project.
This could be used for other occasions, such as a baby shower, a graduation, or
holidays.  I have even thought of putting all the pictures I have of my boys with Santa
on one. Well, that will be a project for another day.  If you think of doing this for a
special occasion and have questions, just send me an email or leave me a comment.

Mother's Day Album

I did it!  I finished my "Mother's Day Album" in time for Mother's Day!
I am so proud to have completed not only my first mini book, but
something special for my mom.  She really loved it too! I thought she
might cry, but she was just excited.
When I began scrapbooking,  I thought I would just be a scrapper
that did the 12 x 12 albums. They give you so much room to work with.
HOWEVER.... I know now that I will continue to do mini books.
I really had a lot of fun with it and you can show off so many different
techniques in the book. I enjoy learning new techniques.  I think it is
boring to do the same thing over and over.  I like to spice things up!
Here is my very first mini book.  I hope you like it.
I used My Mind's Eye paper.
I used Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress Ink!  I love this color.  It
gives such a soft aged look.  The book rings are from Seven Gypsies.
I got my ribbon and lace from EMI Scrapbook Store.  Susan has such a
wonderful selection of product.  I also used some punches, eyelets, bling,
and Tim Holtz's Tissue tape and Grungepaper.  Another product that I love.
It is so easy to work with while adding depth to a project.
I got the little charms that are on the book rings at Hobby Lobby.
Oh sorry....some of the photos are turned sideways.
I am still new at all this blogging.
Give me time, I promise I will get the hang of it.

Ta Da!  That's it for now.  Father's Day is coming soon and also
my husband's mother is turning 90 at the end of June.  So I've got lot's to do.
I plan on uploading some other projects that I have already finished.
If anyone is checking this out, I hope you come back and visit soon.
